Oglethorpe University Names New Chief Financial Officer

Atlanta, GA (08/15/2019) — Following an extensive national search, Oglethorpe University has named Peter D. Stobie as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Business & Finance. Stobie brings more than 30 years of finance and operational experience in both higher education and the corporate environment. He will start his new position on September 16.

Stobie comes to Oglethorpe from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, where he served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives. In that role, he was responsible for opening a new medical school campus in Joplin, Missouri; leading KCU's strategic planning efforts; and overseeing all operations functions, including Human Resources, IT, Facilities, Grounds, Food Service and Security. He also had served as Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, leading key financial and operations projects, including creating a budget and forecast process, real estate acquisitions, bond financing, and the university's contract review, compliance, and risk management.

Previously, Stobie spent more than a decade at Baker University (Kansas), where he served in a variety of roles, including Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations, Executive Director of Business Development, and Associate Professor. He also has experience outside of higher education, working for Sprint Corporation and Janus Capital Corporation. He attended Loyola University (New Orleans), and then transferred to the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri (Kansas City), where he earned a BBA in Finance and an MBA with a concentration in International Business.

Stobie grew up in Dunwoody, Georgia and attended St. Pius X High School. He and his wife Lisa, a personal fitness trainer, have two children, Drake, a recent graduate from The George Washington University, and Kara, a junior at the University of Kansas.
