Savannah LeGate Garners National Rookie of the Year Award

Freshman forward Savannah LeGate of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team was named the women's Division III Rookie of the Year by D3hoops.com, marking the first time that a member of the Stormy Petrels has won a postseason national award from the website. It also marks the third rookie or newcomer of the year award that LeGate has won this season.

Senior economics major Paige Davis '18 has been accepted into the highly competitive American Economics Association Summer Scholarship Program. Davis is the first Oglethorpe student to apply to the fellowship program and to receive the honor.

First-year students MAP out next four years

On July 21, Oglethorpe welcomed 84 incoming students for the third and final summer orientation, known as a MAP (Making a Petrel) Day. Oglethorpe's mascot is the Stormy Petrel. During MAP Day, these first-year students enrolled in their fall semester classes and received their official Petrel Pass student IDs. Classes start August 21, 2017.

Abigail Taylor Kreisinger wins Sally Hull Weltner Award for Highest Academic Achievement

Abigail Taylor Kreisinger, a 2017 graduate of Oglethorpe University, was awarded the Sally Hull Weltner Award for Scholarship at the university's commencement ceremony on May 13, 2017. This award is given annually in loving memory of Sally Hull Weltner, wife of Dr. Philip Weltner, president of Oglethorpe University from 1944-1953. The award honors the student in the graduating class who has attained the highest grade-point average with the greatest number of hours in course work completed at the university.
